Suspect identified in Ridge Drive shooting

A suspect has been identified in an off-campus shooting reported to have occurred 3:24 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Ridge Drive in DeKalb, according to a DeKalb Police news release.

Maurice A. Williams has been identified as the shooting suspect and an arrest warrant has been issued. Williams is wanted for aggravated battery with a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Williams’ bond has been set at $750,000, 10 percent to apply, according to the news release.

An investigation discovered a fight broke out at a party in the 1000 block of Ridge Drive and a male pulled out a handgun and fired at several people, according to the news release.

A female victim, who had been shot, was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital as police arrived on the scene. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening.

The suspect then entered a vehicle which was later found unoccupied. Shell casings and other evidence were found on the scene. A handgun, believed to be used in the shooting, was recovered by police, according to the news release.
