NIU, DeKalb groups to hold storm awareness training

The National Weather Service will hold an early warning and detection of severe storms training class 7 p.m. Feb. 11.
NIU Weather, NIU Police, NIU student chapters of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association and city police will sponsor the event to be held at the DeKalb Police station, 700 W. Lincoln Highway.
The class lasts approximately two hours, with light refreshments and desserts provided. Those who attend can look forward to understanding the basics of how a thunderstorm works and signs to look for when a thunderstorm, according to an NIU Today news release.
Walk-ins are welcome, but attendees are asked to email and confirm participation. The class is free.
