Basketball looks to keep home winning streak

Men’s basketball (14-3, 3-1 MAC) will look to remain perfect at home as it takes on Central Michigan (9-7, 2-1 MAC) in a conference matchup.

The Huskies are currently the No. 1 scoring defense in the MAC and the Chippewas are the No. 3 scoring offense in the conference. NIU lost to Toledo on Saturday, ending a seven-game winning streak the team had dating back to Dec. 19.

Central Michigan recorded a big win Jan. 12 as the team defeated MAC rival Akron. The Huskies were the only undefeated team in the MAC until their loss over the weekend. These two teams last met in February with NIU pulling out the 73-55 victory at home, led by junior guard Aaric Armstead’s 15 points.

Central Michigan

• Junior guard Braylon Rayson ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring, averaging 17.4 points a game.

• Senior guard Rayshawn Simmons is fourth in assists/turnover ratio in the conference.

• CMU has three players in the top ten in minutes played in the MAC.

• Simmons is second in the MAC in assists, averaging 5.7 a game.

• The Chippewas have the No. 3 scoring offense in the MAC.

• CMU ranks No. 5 in assists in the MAC, averaging 13.7 a game.

NIU

• NIU ranks No. 2 in the MAC in steals and assists.

• The Huskies have the No. 1 scoring defense in the MAC.

• The Huskies rank No. 1 in scoring margin.

• NIU is No. 5 in scoring offense in the conference.

• NIU is top two in both rebounding offense and rebounding defense and No. 1 in rebounding margin.

• Sophomore center Marin Maric is second in the MAC in rebounds, averaging 9 a game.

• Senior guard Travon Baker is tied for fourth in the MAC in assists and steals.

• Junior guard Michael Orris and Baker are 2-3 respectively in the MAC in assists/turnover ratio.

The Huskies will move to 12-0 at home and 15-3 overall with a win. The team won just 14 games in all of the 2014-15 season.
