Men’s basketball (11-2, 0-0 MAC) defeated Judson 91-48 win on Saturday in its final non-conference game of the season.

Freshman forward Jaylen Key got the Huskies off to a good start with an early six points. Judson had hit four threes with 11:50 in the half but it wasn’t enough to keep up with NIU. The Huskies led 53-30 at halftime.

NIU pulled away completely in the second half. The team led 81-39 with 7:34 remaining and had outscored Judson 29-9 up to that point in the half.

Freshman wing Levi Bradley finished with his first career double-double, collecting a career-high 19 points and a career-best 11 rebounds to lead the Huskies.

Junior guard Aaric Armstead and freshman guard Laytwan Porter both contributed 12 points. Sophomore center Marin Maric scored in double figures for the ninth straight game with 11 points.

NIU shot 49.3 percent (35-71) for the game and scored 59 points in the paint. The Huskies bench continued to be a force, outscoring the Tigers’ bench 50-25.

The home team dominated in almost every facet of the game, scoring 28 points off of 23 Judson turnovers, and recorded 12 steals, 15 assists and 56 rebounds.

The Huskies held the visitors to 23.5 percent shooting (16-68) for the game. The Tigers scored just seven points in the paint, had three fast break points and just five second chance points.

Drew Makiewicz led the Tigers with 15 points on 5-9 shooting in 17 minutes. Andrew Eck contributed eight points and a team-high five rebounds for Judson.

.“We did what we were supposed to do,” said NIU head coach Mark Montgomery, according to a NIU Athletics news release. “We came out and defended, we shared the ball and scored in the paint. I know that our non-conference scheduled has gotten us ready for conference play.

“Levi Bradley had his first career double-double. I thought he came out aggressive, he rebounded the ball well. He has a knack around the basket and he can stretch out to a long-two (point shot) or three. He has been practicing better, everything with him is about confidence and strength. The stronger he gets, and the more confident he gets, his minutes will continue to go up. It doesn’t matter who you are playing, you have to put the ball in the basket and get rebounds, and he did that.”

The Huskies begin Mid-American Conference play this week as they play Ohio at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Convocation Center.
