Style Guide: Tips to Improve Your Look

By Samantha Keck

After the holiday season, you can always expect to see a selfie of someone with a new haircut or outfit with the ever so cliché caption, “New year, new me” on social media.

It’s exciting, as well as inspiring, to create new resolutions for the year ahead, but the real problem occurs when it is time to find the motivation to make these resolutions a reality. Instead of kicking your resolution to the side, here are a few ways to help improve your look, while also revamping yourself for the new year:

Clean out all of the “dusty” clothes

It’s never too late to look through your closet and part with clothes you have pushed to the side. I have a trick I always use when looking to get rid of clothes. if I haven’t worn it in more than a year, it goes in the bag. It sounds overwhelming, but the sooner you realize the reward of not having those useless clothes in your closet, the better.

Look online or to your friends for inspiration

Everyone has their own personal style. Whether it is simple, classic or complex, they’re never exactly the same. Looking at another person’s style can help you decide what you do and don’t like. Sometimes, the most inspiring people are right in front of you.

Be open minded

Being open to trying new styles is the perfect way to not only find your style, but to experiment. Stepping outside of your comfort zone can be very intimidating but it can also be satisfying once you find pieces that you love. There’s so much variety in clothing that you can find something to fit you for any occasion. If you close yourself off, you might not have that luxury of finding the perfect ensemble.
