Senate fills SA director position

Stuart Nissenbaum, who was appointed Student Association director of Environmental Affairs by the SA Senate on Sunday, hopes to reduce printing on campus and make the bus system more efficient.

The position was created to coordinate environmental service projects, collaborate with university environmental groups for programming as well as hold a minimum of one sustainability workshop per semester, according to an Oct. 19 Northern Star article. The Senate approved the creation of the SA director of Environmental Affairs cabinet position at a meeting on Oct. 18.

Nissenbaum said he intends to work with SA Senate Speaker Dillon Domke, to implement a green printing initiative in the spring semester.

This initiative aims to reduce printing on campus and plans to hold workshops to educate people on how to effectively use other sources, according to an Oct. 22 Northern Star article.

“I look forward to working with the other green organizations in the area to get stuff done,” Nissenbaum said.

He also hopes to work with the SA to make the bus routes as efficient as they can be.

Nissenbaum said he will push for other changes to make the campus greener such as composting in the dining halls and improving the recycling initiative on campus.

“As a transfer student from the University of Colorado, a leader in the green initiative, I would like to elevate NIU to that same standing,” Nissenbaum said.
