Cudi’s Latest Release is Emotional, Angrier

By Morgan Carrigan

Kid Cudi’s latest album “Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven” is dedicated to anyone who has ever suffered from mental health issues.

Cudi typically offers chill hip-hop tracks, but he veers in a different direction with his newest album. Most songs have a more punk rock feel and hard lyrics.

The album seems a little like an experiment to me. Cudi is losing what made him so successful to begin with. I commend him for dedicating his album to a public issue, but he didn’t strike gold.

Many tracks on the album contain lyrics on his mental health. “CONFUSED!” is an emotional track where Cudi’s struggles are obvious: “Who am I? Who are we? All I want to do is feel complete.”

Some tracks are pretty off-the-wall like, “Judgmental C**t” and “Fuchsia Butterflies.” Each is paired with pretty bizarre lyrics and a super angry vibe. You feel the emotions built up in multiple tracks from Cudi but these two stuck out in particular.

“Embers” is a tune that made me a little sad for him. He sings, “I realize there are no answers to rid me of this cancers,” talking about his wellness, and gives a sense that he is giving up.

All 26 tracks on his album don’t seem like the Cudi we fell in love with.

It’s evident Cudi was vulnerable while making “Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven.” His lyrics are pretty weird and paired with an angry feel. It seems like he lost his identity in the struggle, and I hope he finds himself again soon.
