Women’s basketball splits weekend at SMU Classic

Women’s basketball (3-2, 0-0 MAC) fell to Kansas and beat Cal State Fullerton this weekend in Dallas at the Southern Methodist University Thanksgiving Classic.
Kansas
The Huskies and Jayhawks played a game that came down to the wire, but Kansas was able to pull away, taking the 66-58 win. Neither team shot consistently in the game. The Huskies shot 37.9 percent, and the Jayhawks shot 37.3 percent. Kansas was able to pick up an advantage behind the arc, going 9-20 for 45 percent while the Huskies shot 3-16 for just 18.8 percent.
Junior guard Ally Lehman led NIU in scoring with 18 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out two assists and collected a block and a steal. Redshirt junior forward Cassidy Glenn came up with 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Cal State Fullerton
The Huskies finished the tournament with a win, dominating the Cal State Fullerton Titans 72-49. NIU shot 38.2 percent from the field in the game.
Lehman finished the game with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also had five assists, two blocks and a steal. Freshman guard MiKayla Voigt dropped 15 points, four assists and two rebounds. Sophomore forward Kelly Smith continued to be a threat on the glass as she grabbed 11 rebounds of her own. She also had nine points and an assist.
The Huskies’ next game will take place on the road as they take on Milwaukee at 3 p.m. Thursday in Milwaukee.
