Alderman fails to submit resignation
October 5, 2015
As of Sunday afternoon, 7th ward Alderperson Monica O’Leary has not submitted a letter of resignation.
O’Leary informed Mayor John Rey of her potential resignation before the Sept. 28 City Council meeting, stating she would submit a letter of resignation Friday. O’Leary was not present at the meeting.
“The expressed intent from Alderman O’Leary in it sounds to me … like effective Friday,” Rey said at the meeting. “So we’ll anticipate that communication.”
The council has not decided how the city will handle O’Leary’s resignation if she resigns, said 4th ward Alderman Bob Snow.
“I’m sorry to see her resign,” Snow said. “She felt she needed to resign. I know it has nothing to do with the city. She assured me her resignation was for personal and family reasons.”
Rey said he has not heard from O’Leary since she sent a resignation intent before the Sept. 28 meeting.
O’Leary declined a request to comment.
