Give yourself an excuse to catch a glimpse of the autumn scenery, and explore DeKalb events this weekend.

Today

The Latino Student Alliance will host its fourth annual open mic night. Students can come show their talents in spoken word, song or dance at 7 p.m. in Gabel Hall, Cavan Auditorium.

Friday

Check out Green Tangerine Records, 300 W. Lincoln Highway in Cortland, for an all age, no cover musical experience. The show, which will include acts such as I, The Martian and Dead Drugs, begins at 8 p.m.

Saturday

The Bollweevils band has chosen DeKalb as its next destination to perform. The band is known in Chicago to have some of the finest spirited live performances. Check out The Bollweevils at 8 p.m. at the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway. Tickets are available online at ticketf.ly/1Zwekz1. Other acts include Sleeping Under 47, The Usuals, Cheap Dates and C-Sides.

Start your Halloween early with some scary ghost stories in the park. Local storyteller Phyllis Horst will sing and tell stories of monsters and ghouls. The fun begins at 6 p.m. at the Good Tymes Shelter, Airport Road and Route 64 in Sycamore. Snacks and hot chocolate will be available, and this event is appropriate for all ages.

Sunday

Female Huskies of NIU are going head to head for a Powder Puff football tournament. Games begin at 11 a.m. at the Outdoor Recreation Sports Complex. Teams will compete in an all day tournament to earn one of three trophies and spirit points for Homecoming Week.

Head over to the Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore at 2 p.m. for the Crop Walk. The Crop Walk will raise funds to end hunger in the U.S. and around the world. The Crop Walk has raised $6,400 thus far, according to the organization’s website.
