Food Fridays: O’Leary’s Ale House

By Morgan Carrigan

O’Leary’s in downtown DeKalb is my go-to for bar food.

This Irish pub is located on 260 E Lincoln Hwy. This is a casual restaurant with seriously delicious food. They offer an array of appetizers including Irish Egg Rolls which is inspired by an eggroll but has an Irish twist, corned beef stuffed in an egg roll with sour kraut- yum. The bacon wrapped shrimp and onion rings are some of the choices on the menu.

The burgers are legit, offering a variety from a California burger with cheese, avocado, and 1000 island dressing. To a veggie burger for the non-meat lovers.

O’Leary’s prides themselves on great beer but even better food. You are greeted at the door with a life size cow statue which sets the tone for the corky environment. The restaurant has a unique set up with the bar placed in the middle and seating around it. I get a throwback vibe when I dine in O’Leary’s.

Although it could be pricey for a college budget, the food makes the money worth it. Lucky for us, O’Leary’s offers a $5.99 lunch menu special.

I highly recommend to start your meal with Irish Egg rolls, and then an Oktoberfest chicken with a side of rice. Margherita flatbread, buffalo chicken grilled cheese, and reuben are all solid choices. And yes my friends, they do accept Huskie Bucks.
