October 1, 2015
Women’s soccer (2-7-0, 1-1-0) will travel to Athens, Ohio this weekend to face off against the Ohio Bobcats (3-6-0) and Kent State (5-3-2). Both teams enter this weekend 1-1-0 in MAC-conference play.
Ohio freshman forward Stephanie Rowland scored her third goal on the season last weekend in a win against the reigning MAC-champion Buffalo Bulls (4-4-1). Ohio went on to fall against Akron (4-5-1) on Sunday and is looking for its third home win on the season.
The Huskies will finish the weekend with a battle against Kent State. The Golden Flashes are averaging 5.5 points a game while also leading the MAC in assists. Jenna Hellstrom, Kent State junior forward, already has seven goals on the season. She has a chance to raise her numbers even higher this weekend. Hellstrom is the leading scorer for the Golden Flashes and leads the MAC in several offensive categories.
NIU senior forward Nicole Gobbo, who ranks second in the conference in shots per game this week, also has a chance at another big weekend.
Game one against Ohio will begin at 3 p.m. Friday in Athens, Ohio, and the second and final game of the weekend will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday in Kent, Ohio.
