DeKalb police: Increased number of robberies this year
October 26, 2015
A robbery reported to have occurred Sunday marks an increase in robberies this year, police say.
A Vinny’s Pizza delivery driver told police he was the victim of a robbery at 900 Crane Drve near University Plaza. An individual ran behind the victim and snatched money that he had in his hand as he walking back to his car after a delivery, according to DeKalb police.
The offender, who was described as being approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a gray hoodie, ran southbound and was not located, according to DeKalb police.
Police are looking at surveillance footage as part of their investigative efforts. If apprehended, the individual may face theft of person, which is a felony.
Some of the robberies committed this year have been committed by groups and arrests have been made in those cases, said Commander John Petrogallo of the DeKalb Police Department. Police have no reason to believe the most recent case is connected to any previous robbery or theft, Petrogallo said.
“I wouldn’t call it common, but we have had an increased number of robberies this year,” Petrogallo said.
