Pass: food truck offers healthy options, Fail: self-defense class listed online with incorrect time

Pass

The Rolling Harvest Food Truck is a great improvement to the healthy food options available for students. I have said in the past NIU does not have many healthy food options for students, and finding cheap and healthy food is a challenge. Although the dining halls offer some nutritious selections, they also accompany those with many fried options.

While it is a student’s responsibility to choose what they eat, I think it is easier to make a healthy choice when you have multiple options. The same old soggy salad every day can get old and make a nice greasy cheeseburger seem like heaven. The Rolling Harvest Food Truck has come to the rescue of students seeking more options. Veggies, sliders, hummus and weekly specials add variety to a monotonous and unhealthy diet.

Fail

With the recent robberies being reported so frequently on and around campus, it is good to know that NIU offers self-defense classes; however, if the classes aren’t listed under the correct times online, they will not be of any help to anyone. The NIU Department of Police and Public Safety offers women’s self-defense classes through the R.A.D System.

Unfortunately, the NIU events calendar listed the time of one of the most recent sessions incorrectly. The website said the class was to take place 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 5 but was actually held the night before. This mistake resulted in only a few people attending the class. In the future, the department should pay more attention to detail because this class is valuable to women on campus, and they should be able to take advantage of it.
