Women’s soccer prepares for first conference games

Women’s soccer (1-6-0) will return home to the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex this weekend for games against Toledo and Central Michigan.

The Huskies have lost six straight games since beginning the season with a win against Lewis.

NIU will focus on one game at a time, said head coach John Ross. “Right now it’s all about Toledo.”

The team is looking to “tweak and improve along the way” as it prepares for its first conference games of the season, Ross said.

The Huskies have also been working on a new formation in practice throughout the week.

“We’re ready,” said freshman forward Taylor Sarver.

Toledo, who completed last season with a record of 7-11-2, is coming off of three straight wins against Oakland (1-5-4), Northern Kentucky (5-2-0) and Wright State (3-4-1).

The Huskies were able to secure the conference win last season when they defeated Toledo 2-1 in double overtime. The Huskies hope to “come out strong this year,” said redshirt junior forward Mackenzie Lewis.

The team will play first against Toledo at 7 p.m. on Friday and end at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Central Michigan, who is facing its fourth straight loss.
