Police say a social media post students suspected of being a threat has been found to have no connection to NIU.

The post, which was shared across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook on Friday, contained threatening language directed at Northern High School in Durham, N.C.; however, many students on social media said they thought the message was directed at NIU.

“Y’all thought it was a joke last Friday,” a screenshot of the message read. “This time I’m not worried about the police.”

There is no threat to the safety of NIU students or people in the surrounding area, according to an NIU Safety Bulletin. Durham Police are investigating the incident, according to NIU.
