Food Fridays: Pita Pete’s offers vegan, vegetarian options
September 4, 2015
If greasy and sugary fast food are getting you down, try a more nutritious and fulfilling option like Pita Pete’s.
Pita Pete’s, 901 Lucinda Ave., is the hidden gem of nutritious healthy eateries in DeKalb. The store, tucked away on the bottom level of the Village Commons, also offers delivery through the website EatStreet. The atmosphere is natural and chill, and the employees are all super friendly and helpful.
Pita Pete’s offers a ton of pita options including chicken caesar, steak fajita, falafel, Philly cheesesteak, or baba ghanoush. Pita Pete’s also sells the naked pita which is just pita toppings minus the pita bread. The best thing about the pitas is they’re customizable with any kind of meat, vegetables, among other toppings, and sauce.
There are also a lot of vegetarian and vegan pita options including garden pitas and the vegan meat substitute seitan.
For appetizers, Pita Pete’s offers delicious soups like the homemade kale and white bean soup, as well as pita chips and hummus, three bean salad, and chips. Cookies are available for dessert. There are teas, sodas and juices for beverage options.
I recommend the seitan pita with green peppers, spinach, chickpeas and tzatziki sauce.
