Here is what music students had on their playlists this week:
Kristin Patel, sophomore visual communications major, said she listens to a playlist called “Stuff I Like,” which includes Coldplay, Rise Against and Awolnation. Patel said new music doesn’t always work for her.
“New music gets me daydreaming,” Patel said. “It’s not like that with classic rock.”
from the streetPatel said that she prefers the older genre of classic rock because of the strong beat and meaningful lyrics. Patel’s playlist also included Queen, the Eagles, Bob Seger, Led Zepplin, Styx and Elvis.
Number one song: “Into West”- Peter Hollands
Melvin Meeks, sophomore radio broadcast major, said his favorite artist is Drake.
“Anything he puts his name on comes out good,” Meeks said.
Meeks said that broadcasting has drawn him to rock and some country, which he’s enjoyed investigating. Meeks said Lollapalooza introduced him to artists such as Tove Lo and Odesza.
Number one song: “Know Yourself”- Drake
Jake Swick, sophomore political science and community leadership and civic engagement double major, said his playlist contains artists from Taylor Swift to John Mayer to Drake to Fetty Wap.
Music is the language through which souls communicate, and Bob Marley’s “Soul Rebel” speaks to the soul perfectly, Swick said.
“It’s part of being something bigger,” Swick said. “It’s got value.”
