The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will hold its annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk for DeKalb next month.

The walk is from 1-2 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Hopkins Park Band Shell, 1403 Sycamore Road, with check-in and registration starting at noon. Online registration ends at noon Oct. 9.

People walk three to five miles in communities across the country every fall to raise suicide awareness, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s website. Walkers help raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to invest in research, advocate for public policy, create educational programs and support survivors that have lost someone to suicide.
