Treasurer to root for grants at NIU

By Northern Star staff

Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs will meet with NIU officials and student leaders today to voice his support for MAP grant funding.

Frerichs will participate in a news conference at 1:30 p.m. today in the Holmes Student Center, Sky Room, where he will call for Gov. Bruce Rauner and the General Assembly to approve funding for MAP grants, according to a news releease. MAP grants provide Illinois residents with financial aid for higher education.

NIU, and other universities like SIU, continue to credit students with MAP grant estimates despite the lack of a set budget in the state.
