Student Association President Joe Frascello announced his support Friday for a Feb. 22 SA Senate resolution demanding NIU fill a vacant Military Student Services counseling position.

SA Senator Leon Kincaid said 22 veterans take their lives daily and there have been two suicides committed by NIU student veterans this year, according to the resolution. Military Student Services’ counseling position has been difficult to fill since it became unoccupied in 2012 because of a freeze on hiring.

Frascello said he received a response from Eric Weldy, vice president of Student Affairs, and Katrina Caldwell, assistant vice president of Student Affairs, on Friday saying they are in the process of making a final decision about whether to fill position.
