Students are headed to Belvidere on Saturday to help a zoo that was damaged in Thursday’s tornadoes.

Kalenna Kaske, junior community leadership and civic engagement major and Belvidere native, said she will take a group of students to Summerfield Zoo, 3088 Flora Road in Belvidere, to clear debris and begin construction work.

Students from service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega are going at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, but everyone is able to go at their convenience to help, Kaske said. The zoo is also looking for donations of meat, vegetables, fruit, gallons of water and bedding for the animals, Kaske said.

Kaske said people can contact her through her email, [email protected], for information about the trip or to arrange for her to bring donations to the zoo.
