By Chris Loggins

Softball will look to continue its four-game winning streak this weekend against the Bowling Green Falcons and the Toledo Rockets.

The Huskies (16-13, 3-0 MAC) began the weekend by winning the first game of a doubleheader Friday against Bowling Green (11-14, 2-1 MAC), 5-3, at Mary M. Bell Field. They will then play a two-game series against Toledo (12-18, 0-2 MAC) beginning Saturday at 4 p.m. and ending Sunday with a game at 1 p.m.

“We’re just looking forward to being undefeated in conference,” said freshman pitcher Keegan Hayes. “Game by game we want to get those wins.”

The Huskies managed to put up a total of 39 runs in their last six games entering this weekend compared to only 16 by their opponents. Freshman infielder Alaynie Woollard has played well, improving her season totals to seven home runs and 19 RBIs. She piled up five hits, three home runs and eight RBIs in her three games prior to Friday.

Bowling Green outfielder Molly Holliday will be a tough out for the Huskies as she’s entered this weekend hitting a staggering .397 on the season, with 10 hits coming in her last five games.

For the Rockets, Celeste Fidge has been on fire, coming into the weekend hitting .425 on the year, with 37 hits, seven doubles, four triples, three home runs and 24 RBIs.

The Huskies are off to a 1-0 start this weekend and they’re ecstatic at the chance to push their winning streak to seven games.

“Continuing the sweep. At this point that’s the standard that … we want to do,” said head coach Christina Sutcliffe. “Trying to continue and start conference out 6-0.”
