NIU wrestling: Shawn Scott headed to NCAA championships

Wrestling redshirt sophomore Shawn Scott punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships on March 19-21 this weekend.
Scott took fourth place in the loaded 197-pounded weight class in the double-elimination tournament. He opened Friday with a 4-3 win over Northern Iowa’s Basil Minto before losing by forfeit to defending national champion J’Den Cox of Missouri. Saturday, he defeated Eastern Michigan Anthony Abro, 2-1, in overtime of the consolation semifinals before losing by injury default against Old Dominion’s Kevin Beazley.
Scot was one of five Huskies to make it to the second day – the placing matches – of the MAC Championships in Columbia, Mo.
