Top 4 best places to nap around NIU

By Northern Star staff

Holmes Student Center, main floor

Surrounded by the pungent aroma of Subway, one can always enjoy a cozy nap at the Holmes Student Center.

For many students who live off campus there isn’t time to run home and eat or nap and make in back time for class. You will find an array of couches perfect for that 30- to 45-minute between-class nap on the main floor across from the hotel check-in.

What makes this the perfect spot is that there’s little traffic and light classical music plays in the background to lull you to sleep. Another benefit: There are outlets to recharge your devices while you recharge.

Founders Memorial Library, basement

There’s something about walking into the library and being surrounded by thousands of books and silence that makes everyone tired.

Amidst the quiet whispers of studying peers, we all have those moments where we just want to put our head down and sleep. The basement is the best place to catch some ZZZ’s. It’s always warm and mellow.

For you coffee lovers, this is the perfect spot to grab some much-needed caffeine after nap time.

Engineering Building, anywhere

Engineering majors probably know this glass house is one of the most peaceful spots on campus.

The Engineering Building is perfect for a nap away from home and is generally empty except for the poor souls quietly suffering through engineering classes. Each floor here is filled with secret spots where you can hide and sleep without watchful eyes.

Watson Hall, third floor

A lot of students have class in DuSable Hall and the surrounding buildings as they’re home to most gen. ed courses. Instead of hiding out in a classroom to catch up on sleep, you can walk to the east wing fo Watson’s third floor and find a section that has very little foot traffic (except for all the math professors). There are two couches and four wide comfortable chairs where you can relax on as you drift off to dreamland.
