$50K redesign to DeKalb’s website draws more ire at council meeting

The city of Geneva and village of Bensenville offer features like online payments and concern reports on their websites, which were designed by CivicPlus. DeKalb hired the company to bring the city’s website to code with the Americans with Disabilities Act and provide features like in the websites above.

A $50,000 revamp to the city’s website continued to stir debate during Monday’s City council meeting.

DeKalb must update its website to align with the Americans with Disabilities Act. At the council’s Feb. 9 meeting, the council agreed to pay $50,570 to CivicPlus for the revamp.

At Monday’s meeting, DeKalb resident Bessie Chronopoulos said she questioned if the renewed website would be worth the amount contracted. Chronopoulos asked the council to revisit the contract and terminate it if possible because the cost would be coming from DeKalb taxpayers.

The council did not comment on Chronopoulos’ request at the meeting.
