NIU Steel Band embarks on concert series

NIU Steel Band will hold a series of concerts in the Chicagoland area running through April 26.

Steel Band is a 35-member group made up of steelpan percussion majors.

The band will take part in a benefit concert for Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras 5 p.m. March 28 at the University of Chicago Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St. in Chicago.

During the weekend of April 10, Steel Band will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Faith United Protestant Church, 10 Hemlock St. in Park Forest; Saturday at Metamore High School, 101 W. Madison St. in Metamore; and conclude with a performance 3 p.m. Sunday at the NIU Music Building, Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.

Steel Band will head out on the road once more to perform 3 p.m. April 19 at the Kishwaukee Hospital Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Fundraiser at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, 26555 Brickville Road in Sycamore. They’ll then return to NIU for a concert with the NIU Wind Ensemble at 3 p.m. April 26 at the Music Building, Boutell Memorial Concert Hall.
