Though the Children’s Community Theatre’s production of “Peter Pan” had a familiar plot, strong vocals from young soloists made the show stand out.

The musical, performed Saturday at The Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., included a local cast ranging from ages 5 to 60 and covered the same plot featured in the 1953 Disney classic, “Peter Pan.”

Emma Carpenter, 13, who played Wendy, impressed me with her strong vocal and acting abilities. She stood out on the stage and was well-rehearsed.

Isaiah Panke, 13, who played the starring role of Peter Pan, had wonderful stage presence and strong vocal talent. He led the cast in songs throughout the show.

The musical included songs “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Never Never Land,” which were performed by groups of children acting as Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, Tiger Lily, the Indians and Captain Hook’s pirates.

Seeing all of the children involved in the production and hearing the original songs was enjoyable, as they were a great reminder of the film I watched as a child.

The set design was colorful and stayed true to the story’s setting.

There were three major sets used in the show: the Darlings’ home, Peter Pan’s Neverland underground home and the Jolly Roger, Captain Hook’s pirate ship.

All of the cast members were dressed in wonderful costumes that fit with the setting of the story. The show also included a system that allowed actors to fly across the stage.

The Children’s Community Theatre’s production of “Peter Pan” is a family-oriented show and is perfect for those who enjoy a Broadway twist on classics.
