Need a break from all that studying for midterms? Choose from these local music, fashion and food weekend events:

Today

Start your weekend on a sweet note. Chefs at Ellington’s in the Holmes Student Center will prepare a Cherry On Top meal with three courses in which chefs incorporate cherries into each dish.

Items on the menu include a harvest salad with cherry vinaigrette, cherry glazed salmon and a cherry tart. The meal will be served 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and costs $10.

Celebrate fashion and African heritage with Present Perfect Modeling Organization in its 29th annual Afrocentric Show. Rainn Darring of Campus Live Radio will deejay the event. The show starts 8 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Duke Ellington Ballroom.

Friday

Bond with friends and make new ones over food and productive conversation at Zeta Phi Beta’s Soul Bowl 5:20-9 p.m. in Stevenson Towers North, Multipurpose Room and Fishbowl Room.

The event is part of the Center for Black Studies’ 2015 Black Heritage Month and will feature guest speakers from the program.

The School Of Theatre and Dance will present “Awake And Sing!,” a story which follows the lives of a lower-middle class Jewish family in the Bronx during the Great Depression. The performance is 7:30 p.m. at Huntley Middle School, 1515 S. Fourth Street. Tickets for students cost $8 and can be purchased at the School of Theatre and Dance Box Office in the Holmes Student Center or online at NIU.edu/Theatre.

Saturday

Get ready to dance. Free Lunch, a jazz and hip-hop fusion band, is bringing funk to The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway. Collaborative rap group Legendary Circle will join Free Lunch for a full night of authentic hip-hop and soul. The show begins 8 p.m. and tickets cost $7 at the door.

Sunday

Gather friends and head to the Holmes Student Center for a free movie event. “Horrible Bosses 2,” a comedy starring actors Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day, will be shown 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Carl Sandburg Auditorium.
