A pair of NIU student-athletes swept the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week awards for the first time since 2012, the conference announced Thursday.

Men’s tennis junior Simon Formont and women’s tennis senior Nelle Youel were honored with the weekly conference awards. They became the first pair of athletes from the same school to receive the awards in the same week during the current academic year.

The last time two NIU student-athletes swept the weekly honors was Dec. 6, 2012, when football’s Nabal Jefferson and women’s basketball’s Amanda Corral were recognized by the MAC.

Formont went 6-0 during men’s tennis’ 3-0 weekend. Youel opened the season with a 4-0 mark as women’s tennis went 2-0 over the weekend. Formont has a 3.811 grade-point average, while Youel boasts a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
