Alumna Catherine Squires has been named the vice president for University Advancement.

Squires must be approved by the Board of Trustees, which next meets March 12, and would begin May 1, according to an NIU news release. Squires will “be responsible for the overall vision, leadership, strategy and management of all fundraising and alumni relations activities on behalf of NIU,” according to the release. Baker, who started at NIU in 2013, has pushed for improved relations with NIU alumni.

Outgoing Vice President Mike Malone will help Squires during her transition into the leadership role.

Squires has been vice president of the Tufts Medical Center Trust for seven years. She has also worked with the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago and the Advocate Charitable Foundation, among other organizations.

Squires received her bachelor’s in music from NIU in 1980.
