Huskie Hunks will compete in to the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Midwest Semifinal March 14 at Washington University in St. Louis.

Huskie Hunks, an all-male a cappella group, took second place at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Midwest Quarterfinal Saturday at the University of Chicago. The group performed its For the Ladies set, which featured three songs: “It’s Raining Men,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Hey Juliet.”

“We got back to our roots and worked with songs that we originally loved singing for the ladies, and thus, our set had a theme,” said Trent Snyder, senior music business major and Huskie Hunks co-founder.

Snyder said the group received constructive criticism from the judges after the Saturday competition, and the Hunks intend to use that before they perform their next set.

“That was the most fun I have ever had singing on stage — ever,” Snyder said. “I had a great time just performing with my best friends and the audience could feel it. Yes, we did not hit every single note like we planned, but there is always room for improvement.”

Bobby Truong, junior cooperate communication major, said the best thing about Saturday’s performance was the rush from being on stage.

“It cannot be matched and we had so much fun,” Truong said. “I also will always remember crying tears of joy after we got off stage. It was one of the highlights of my college career.”

Snyder said the audience reacted well to the Huskie Hunks’ dance moves and singing.

“It was cool to see how different everyone’s sets were,” said Joe Daebelliehn, freshman business administration major. “The experience of being on stage was both rewarding and humbling.”

Before the Huskie Hunks head to St. Louis for semifinals, they will host an International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Quarterfinal at DeKalb High School, 501 W. Dresser Road, which Snyder said will be like the one in Chicago Saturday.
