Business ordinance may face changes
January 25, 2015
Mayor John Rey said city officials will propose an additional section to a business inspection ordinance today at a City Council meeting.
The meeting begins 6 p.m. in the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St. Other topics will include the bar entry age and buying the Protano property.
Inspections ordinance
A proposal will be made to add a section to the Fire Safety Registration and Inspection ordinance which will address small business group FOCUS’ concerns regarding inspection steps in the original ordinance.
Protano property
Some city officials want to gain ownership of the Protano property, 1151 S. Fourth St., which is likely to be contaminated with gasoline and oil.
The property is owned by the county. Rey said the city cannot clean up the property without first having ownership of it. The council will discuss the city getting money to resolve that issue, Rey said.
Bar entry age
There was conversation at a fall Student Association Senate meeting about lowering the bar entry age in DeKalb from 21 to 20. Rey said the SA indicated there will be some type of commentary from the Senate at today’s meeting.
