Non-profit organizations and government departments will team up Thursday to host a health insurance enrollment event at NIU-Rockford.

Certified assistants at the campus, 8500 E. State St. in Rockford, will provide free in-person help for people to enroll in a health insurance program, according to a Get Covered America news release. Get Covered America is a national campaign focused on teaching the benefits of health coverage and the options available under the Affordable Care Act.

The deadline to enroll in a plan for those without insurance is Feb. 15. If people are not insured by that date, they could face a fine of $325 or 2 percent of their income, whichever is higher, according to the release.
