Navy Veteran Rosemary Ostberg sits in attendance Tuesday during a Veterans’ Day ceremony at the flagpole southeast of Altgeld Hall. Ostberg was a Lieutenant, Junior Grade from 1949 to 1954, working in the Pentagon as a top secret control officer for logistics war planning and later in Astoria, Ore. as an assistant communications officer. Ostberg said she left the Navy in 1954 to start a family. “In those days, you couldn’t get married, you couldn’t have children, so I decided to do that,” said Ostberg, who wore her husband’s Navy coat.
