A DeKalb man who police said falsely reported an attack that led to school lockdowns was arrested Wednesday.
Jacob B. Garcia, 26, turned himself into the DeKalb Police Department Wednesday after being charged with filing a false police report (Class 4 felony). He was released after posting bond.
Garcia reported to DeKalb police at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 21 that he was attacked near the DeKalb County Health Department by a white man who fled the scene before police arrived. Officers from surrounding police agencies responded to the area to search for the suspect and local schools were locked down as a precautionary measure.
Garcia was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital for his injuries and then released. He later told officers the report was falsified, police said.
