Wrestling’s Red squad defeated the Black squad in the annual Red/Black Dual.
The Red squad won Friday at Victor E. Court with a team score of 21-15.
The Red squad won the first three matches and jumped out to a 15-3 lead after five matches
But, the Black squad didn’t back down. Junior Andrew Morse (157) and redshirt sophomore Trace Engelkes (174) posted back-to-back major decisions to pull the Black team within 15-11; however, they didn’t get any closer.
Freshman Quinton Rosser (184) pinned Austin Repp to seal the win for the Red team in the next match.
The Huskies open the regular season 8 a.m. Saturday in East Lansing, Mich., in the Michigan State Open.
“I get super fired up watching these guys step onto the mat and compete in real-time matches, and [Friday] I thought these guys brought a high level of intensity, and that’s what we were looking for,” said head coach Ryan Ludwig, according to a news release. “We were looking for fire and big gas tanks. We saw that, and we’re happy.”
