Rapid Reaction: Football 28, Eastern Michigan 17

What happened: The Huskies (6-2, 3-1, MAC) beat the Eastern Michigan Eagles (2-6, 1-3 MAC), 28-17, Saturday at Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich.

How it happened: The Huskies scored the game’s final 14 points after going down 17-14 early in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run from EMU quarterback Reginald Bell. Sophomore tailback Joel Bouagnon found the end zone from 24 yards out, and redshirt senior tailback Cameron Stingily punched in a 1-yard run to put NIU up 28-17.

The Huskies ran for 332 yards and four touchdowns. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Drew Hare opened the scoring with a 78-yard touchdowns run. After EMU tied the game, Stingily’s 3-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter put NIU up 14-7.

EMU’s Dylan Mulder pulled the Eagles within 14-10 before the half with a 21-yard field goal. Mulder went 1-2 on field goal attempts, and NIU’s Tyler Wedel had both of his field goal attempts blocked.

What it means: The Huskies picked up their sixth win, making them bowl eligible for the seventh-consecutive season. They remain in control of their destiny to make it back to the MAC Championship game for the fifth-straight season.

Redshirt senior safety Dechane Durante had the game’s lone interception, coming in the third quarter.

Up next: The Huskies have a pseudo bye week before they begin the second half of conference play 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Ind., against the Ball State Cardinals.
