October 14, 2014
A DeKalb man stabbed another person after a weekend fight over a party, according to a police news release.
Juan Rodriguez, 22, of DeKalb, is charged with one count of aggravated battery (Class 3 felony). The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Police say the incident occurred after a group of people were turned away from a party early Sunday morning on College Avenue. The group started to throw objects at and bang on the house; they then left and returned with more people. The house’s residents confronted the group and a fight ensued, during which one of the residents called police.
Police took a report for battery when they arrived but could not locate the group, which had already left.
About 10 minutes later, a sheriff’s deputy pulled over a car in the 1400 block of West Lincoln Highway and found one of the people in the car had been stabbed in the lower torso area. The victim was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital. A witness told police the stabbing occurred at the College Avenue fight.
Rodriguez, who had been attending the party at College Avenue, was found to be responsible for the stabbing through an investigation, according to police.
Police are continuing to investigate.
