Several car parts stolen in city: cops
September 7, 2014
City police said they are facing several thefts of catalytic convertors.
The police department received reports of catalytic converter thefts Wednesday and Thursday in the west and northwest sections of the city. Parking lot surveillance footage depicts a black Cadillac CTS at the scene of one of the thefts.
Catalytic converters filter out incoming chemicals using precious metals and can be unbolted, cut or melted off of the exhaust pipes of cars. Cars with missing catalytic converters will create a loud and raspy noise when the engine is on.
Anyone with information about the thefts or suspicious activity around a vehicle is asked to contact the DeKalb Police Department at 815-748-8400.
