Football head coach Rod Carey officially named redshirt junior Matt McIntosh as the Huskies’ starting quarterback Tuesday.

McIntosh had been in competition with redshirt sophomores Drew Hare and Anthony Maddie since spring camp as the Huskies were searching for Jordan Lynch’s successor.

“We feel like we have real good depth there, but it’s time,” Carey said. “Matt played well enough to be named the starter and go ahead and be given that right now.”

McIntosh, Hare and Maddie all saw playing time in the Huskies’ 55-3 win against the Presbyterian Blue Hose Thursday. In the victory, McIntosh completed 10 of his 14 pass attempts for 87 yards and one touchdown, a 39-yard reception by senior wide receiver Da’Ron Brown.
