5 ingredients or less: chicken

By Lauren Iverson

Chicken can taste pretty dull if you eat it all the time, but it’s easy to spice up with five ingredients or less.

Coca-Cola Chicken

This is a simple way of incorporating typical items found around the kitchen in only a few steps. The recipe calls for:

• 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts:

• 1/2 cup ketchup

• 1/2 cup barbecue sauce

• 1 can Coca-Cola

The mixture may sound disgusting at first, but after mixing everything together, the chicken has a delicious twist.

Mix everything in a medium saucepan and bring it to a boil. Cover it and reduce the heat to a medium so it simmers. Keep it covered for about 30 minutes, flip the chicken and stir occasionally.

After the 30 minutes, uncover the chicken and cook it for an additional 10 minutes until done. This goes great with some simple mashed potatoes or rice pilaf.

Ritzy Chicken

Breaded chicken needs a bit of an upgrade or switch-up at times. Ritzy Chicken is a fun way to change it up with everyday items you can find in the kitchen. This recipe calls for:

• 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

• 1 sleeve of Ritz Crackers

• a pinch of garlic salt

• a pinch of ground black pepper

• 6 teaspoons butter

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Run the crackers through a food processor or crush them with a rolling pin until they are fine.

After you finish with the crackers, rinse each chicken breast under cold water and roll them in the crushed crackers.

Place the cracker-crusted chicken in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle each piece with the garlic salt and pepper and place a teaspoon of butter on top of each chicken breast.

Bake the mouthwatering chicken at 350 degrees for about an hour or until the chicken is no longer pink on the inside.
