Men’s tennis’ Dor Amir and Axel Lagerlof come in as Sports’ No. 7 athletes of the 2013-2014 season due to the duos’ great play all season.

As the No. 1 doubles team Amir and Lagerlof finished the season with an 18-2 record. Their only losses came against then-ranked No. 37 Indiana and No. 72 Marquette.

The duo started the season by taking down the No. 8-ranked doubles team. This win along with their undefeated record at the time threw Lagerlof and Amir into the spotlight early in the season. They were ranked as high as No. 37 in the nation.

The duo is happy to be named two of NIU’s best athletes.

“It feels great,” Amir said. “We had our best season together. We were nationally ranked, and it was a good season.”

Lagerlof agreed and said “it feels good to be acknowledged for hard work.”

This is both players’ last season playing tennis at NIU, and they will go down as not only one of NIU’s best doubles teams but also two of NIU’s best singles players.

“We’ve had a great four years,” Amir said “It was a grind, but it all paid off.”
