MAC Tournament on line for women’s tennis

Women’s tennis (7-10, 1-5 MAC) will play host to a pair of conference opponents, including the No. 2 team in the MAC, this weekend.

The Huskies will play the Toledo Rockets 11 a.m. Friday. They will then face the Eastern Michigan Eagles 1 p.m. Saturday. These games will wrap up the Huskies’ regular season and determine if they make the MAC Tournament.

Coming off a 6-0 win Friday against Cardinal Stritch, the Huskies are confident heading into this weekend’s games.

“[The] win definitely helps our confidence heading into the last two matches,” said head coach Ryun Ferrell.

The Huskies are hopeful the weather cooperates as it will allow them to play in DeKalb. Junior Nelle Youel said continuing to play matches at home gives the team a boost.

“It’s just a more relaxed setting, and the team is able to have a good vibe going in,” Youel said.

As confident and prepared as the Huskies will be going into these last two matches, they don’t control their fate for making the MAC Tournament. The team will need at least two losses from one of the teams ahead of them in the standings. A loss on either day would eliminate the Huskies’ chances.

These scenarios are something Ferrell and the players are aware of, but they are trying to not be concerned with them.

“We’re going to focus on what we do, focus on making serves and returns, don’t overthink and getting rid of small mistakes,” Ferrell said.
