Police search for armed robbery suspect

Officers are searching for a man involved in an armed robbery at University Heights apartments last week.
At about 4 p.m. Wednesday, a man, masked and armed with a gun, entered an apartment rental office at University Heights, 1120 Varsity Boulevard, according to a news release. The person demanded cash from employees working behind the counter.
The thief hit one of the employees in the face with a gun, causing injury. The man took cash and fled the scene.
Responding officers spoke with Mariah N. Romero, 20, a resident of University Heights, after arriving.
Following a search of Romero’s apartment, investigators found a gun and property belonging to the victim. Additional investigation found Desmond L. Hunt, 22, of Matteson, was allegedly involved in the robbery.
An arrest warrant was issued for Hunt, who DeKalb Police and U.S. Marshals are still trying to find.
Romero is being held at the DeKalb County Jail and has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, obstructing justice, unlawful possession of cannabis and aggravated battery. Bond for Romero is set at $103,000.
Hunt has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, unlawful use of weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated battery. Bond for Hunt is set at $500,000. Hunt is wanted on an Illinois Department of Corrections parole violation for a previous armed robbery.
