Fashion rules for holidays
December 2, 2013
Even though it can be easy to grab random winter clothes, fashion rules still apply to the holidays.
Do
Get in the spirit of the holiday by wearing an oversized, festive sweater. If at a Christmas party, women should consider a Santa hat with a little black dress. Don’t be afraid to get into the spirit, but be cautious not to overdo it and look like a train wreck.
Don’t
Don’t wear clothes that are too tight or revealing. The phrase “less is more” doesn’t ring true during the holidays. With family parties reoccurring events over winter breaks, there’s no need to run the risk of offending someone or having a nip slip.
Do
Consider layers. The last thing you want to worry about is feeling too hot or cold. Layering allows you to be comfortable in different settings. Wear a comfortable sweater, so if the room ends up a little too warm you are able to take it off but still be comfortable.
Don’t
Don’t be afraid to wear white. The old saying of “no white after Labor Day” is very outdated. If you know there isn’t a chance of destroying your outfit, rock it out. Just be cautious of certain undergarments and be sure they do not show through in.
Do
Go simple and chic. If in doubt, there is nothing wrong with a simple and chic look. Look your best without making a scene. A simple white dress with a black jacket makes a great statement by being sleek.
Don’t
Wear something you would worry about ruining. If you are afraid of ruining a nice outfit in any way, do not wear it. Instead of worrying all night about the possibility of ruining it, wear something that you will be comfortable in.
