Local businesses fail tobacco checks
October 24, 2013
Two local businesses failed tobacco compliance checks Tuesday.
Schnucks, 975 S. Annie Glidden Road, and Huskies Tobacco, 1023 W. Hillcrest, were found to be in violation of the law by selling tobacco to a minor, according to DeKalb Police. Twenty-eight tobacco retailers were inspected as part of the check; this was the first of three rounds of compliance checks.
Tobacco retailers were given information and spoke with by an employee of the Police Department prior to the check, according to police.
The city “has been educating tobacco retailers on minimum-age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying the age of their customers” with the aid of a grant awarded by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s “Kids Can’t Buy Em Here” Tobacco Enforcement Program.
