Cooking contest supports kids
October 30, 2013
The first Cooking for Kids’ Sake fundraiser, hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of DeKalb County, will take place 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Hall, 322 Waterman St.
Chefs in the middle school, high school or family divisions can bring a dish. Guests sample each dish for $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 and younger. Proceeds go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of DeKalb County.
Courtney Denison, director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of DeKalb County, said unlike other non-profit fundraisers which usually focus on adults, this one focuses on the children.
“We wanted to incorporate the kids in the fundraiser,” Denison said. “We want to show what the program really does: empower youth and give them skills. It gives them the privilege to show off their skills. People can congratulate them and encourage them.”
