DeKalb | Acting majors will try a first on the stage by experimenting with sketch comedy Friday night.
“A Sketch Comedy Show: Not a Sketchy Show” will start at 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Holmes Student Center’s Diversions Lounge.
This is the first time the theater department is hosting a sketch comedy show.
“The cast for this show will consist of only four members, which is smaller than most shows,” said senior acting major Caitlin Cavannaugh.
The performers are Cavannaugh, Julie Kubiszyn, Calvin Coran and John Jennings.
The show will raise money for the senior acting class and benefit its film reels, scene night and auditions. The actors will sell baked goods before the show as part of the fundraiser.
“The theater department will reach out to everybody on campus and branch out to the community,” Kubiszyn said.
The cast created a mix of new sketches and adaptations of old comedic sketches. Kubiszyn said the sketches they have interpreted are nothing new, but are from the older days of Saturday Night Live and Second City shows. The classic sketches are modified for a new audience.
Tickets are $5. For more information, check out NIUClassof2014.webs.com.
