Horror, mafia comedy hit theaters
September 11, 2013
A mafia comedy and horror film are two great options for new movies to check out this weekend.
“The Family”
“The Family” is a comedy about post-mob life starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer.
After snitching, De Niro’s character and family must adjust to their new life in France under a witness protection program. When De Niro’s character stops following the witness protection rules, the mafia realizes where he is hiding and it takes De Niro’s wife and kids to help hold the family in place.
Fantastic actors are all over this movie: Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Pastore and of course De Niro and Pfeiffer. Produced by Martin Scorsese and written/directed by Luc Besson, this film looks like a funny yet hard movie.
This film looks funny and ironic with almost everyone playing his or her stereotypical roles: De Niro and Pastore are mobsters and Jones is a marshall. “Insidious: Chapter 2” is not an award-worthy film but will be entertaining.
“Insidious: Chapter 2”
“Insidious: Chapter 2” comes out this weekend and looks to build on one of the most suspenseful and terrifying horror movies in a long time. “Insidious” took a different look at horror movies that wasn’t all gory and violent.
The movie used timing and music well to create suspense and send terrifying chills down the spine. It was very reminiscent of Hitchcock films because everything was deliberate.
In “Chapter 2,” the Lambert family is still haunted after the events of the previous film. Now that they realize what is haunting them, the family tries to figure out why it is happening and learn some secrets that could potentially save their lives.
Returning director James Wan knows how to bring suspense to the most mundane of scenes. The original cast reprised their roles in the movie, which doesn’t often happen in horror films. If this movie is half as good and scary as the original, it will be a must-watch for any fan of the horror genre.
